Early Spring is the time to apply pre-emergent crabgrass
control with fertilizer. You can apply it now through May 1st.
-
From May 15th through June 15th apply weed and feed
to control broadleaf weeds in your lawn. For those close to lakes
and rivers, we also have a phosphorus-free weed and feed.
-
Applying a pre-emergent such as Preen for flower
beds and planters will cut down on summer weeding, giving you time
to enjoy your garden instead of working in it.
-
Before your perennials grow too large, apply a fresh
covering of mulch. We have the area's finest selection of mulches,
including shredded hardwood, hemlock and red pine. We also have a
variety of colored mulches, playground chips and coco shell mulch.
-
Making new gardens or need to add soil to your gardens?

You've
read about it in magazines and the news paper. You've seen it on TV—"Outdoor
Living." Extending your living space outdoors is the newest trend.
More and more people have less and less personal time, and the time
they do have is precious. They want to enjoy it as much as possible.
They want more than a lawn chair and grill outside. Now it's a paver
patio instead of a wood deck that requires routine maintenance. Add
furniture as comfortable as in your living room, a built-in grill surrounded
by a counter, a fire pit or even an outdoor fireplace, even a large
screen TV are now commonplace outside. Instead of coming home and sitting
inside, come home from a long day at work and find your favorite chair
outside. Sound great? Then we can help make it all possible.

Children love to get their hands dirty. So
throw in the chance to dig holes, play with water and impress everyone
with what they grow. It’s no wonder gardening is a growing attraction
for kids.
All plants are not created equal in the eyes of children. Although
they don’t differentiate when it comes to flowers over vegetables,
annuals or perennials (in fact they’re likely to plant them side
by side), kids have their hands-down favorites.

Spring is certainly an exciting time in Wisconsin! Bulbs and perennials
are beginning to poke through the ground, and even last fall’s
icicle pansies are beginning to bloom in my gardens. I love having early
color in my yard. Every day I stroll through my gardens to see what
has newly emerged and make notes of plants I want to add…impatiens
and browalia in my shade garden, native grasses and coneflowers for
a perennial border and a colorful mix of annuals, perennials and foliage
plants for my containers, windowboxes and urns.

What You'll Need:
- 1/2 lb. crabmeat
- ground ginger
- lime juice
- mayonnaise
- 1 stalk lemongrass
- panko bread crumbs
- mixed baby greens
- carrots
- a daikon radish
- rice wine vinegar
- toasted sesame oil
|
|
Step by Step: |
| Preparation Time:
30 minutes - 1 hour
Cooking Time: 30 minutes - 1 hour
First, make the crab cakes. Shred your crab in a bowl. Mince a stalk
of lemongrass – remove the tough outer leaves until you get to the
tender innards- and add to crab. Add about 1/4 cup mayonnaise, about 2
teaspoons lime juice, salt and pepper, and a few tablespoons of panko.
Form into firm patties, coat both sides in more panko bread crumbs, and
put in the fridge to firm up. The picture does not show firm patties;
mold them firmer than this, or they will fall apart!
While these are firming, julienne your carrot and daikon into pieces
about 4-5 inches long. Make sure to make them equal length.
Plate your salad by setting down a small bed of baby greens and a row
of daikon. Sprinkle with rice wine vinegar and toasted sesame oil.
Finish with a row of carrots.
Set aside. Now, add about 2 tbsp. oil in a skillet on medium-high heat.
When hot, add the crab cakes. Cook until golden brown, and flip.
Remove the crab cakes and let drain on a paper towel to absorb excess
oil. Place on top of the salad, and serve!
Yield: 4 servings
